Associations are a major actor of social economy. Different from private companies by their democratic and not for profit management, and by their general interest purpose.

Social economy makes a significant contribution to the development of a plural European society that provides for greater participation, more democracy and more solidarity.

As member of Social Economy Europe CEDAG adopted the Social Economy Charter, where are exposed the seven principles that distingueses social economy entreprises from capital-based companies :

  • the primacy of the individual and the social objective over capital;
  • a voluntary and open membership;
  • a democratic control by the members;
  • the combination of the members' interests, of the users's interest and/or of the general interest;
  • the defense and implementation of solidarity and responsibility principles;
  • the self powered management and the independence from public authorities;
  • the use of essential surplus to carry out sustainable development objectives, services to members or services of general  interest.

CEDAG, together with CARITAS Europa, EASPD, EPR, EURODIACONA, FEANTSA, SOLIDAR and WORKABILITY EUROPE, supports the renewing of the Intergroup on Social Economy and Social services in the newly elected European Parliament: Read the letter to the European Parliament
